About Me

digigeckoI have been taking wildlife photographs for many years and before that, I was a mad naturalist, chasing butterflies around with nets and climbing trees to look at birds nests. For me, becomming a photographer provided an extra avenue of adventure and also allowed me to extend my interactions with wildlife, giving me a perfectly legitimate excuse to sit for longer periods of time in the local forests and woodlands, than most rational people would ever consider.
Coming into photography from a naturalist background meant that I had no formal training as a photographer, and so lighting techniques and the physics of lenses and mysteries of exposure, I had to pick up along the way. I’m sure I am not there yet! But I have come some way.
Over the years I have had various camera systems. My uncle, who was a keen photographer, really encouraged my initial interest and managed to help me acquire some Nikon gear. I used that and built upon it for may years. Recently I have moved to Canon and have now built up a reasonable collection of equipment (which is far too large to lug about with any degree of comfort). Even more recently I have been fiddling about with small digi cameras. The perspective and angles that you achieve with these cameras certainly adds a new dimension to photography and many of my frog images have been taken with such a camera (a Canon G9). Also check out some of the gecko images in the reptile gallery! I have put a gecko image on this page (above) for your viewing pleasure!
